Our Solution

Smart Investor offers a different approach to creating retirement plan solutions than what you may have experienced in the past. While some providers say that they’ll help you with your retirement plan responsibilities, in reality, they leave most of the decision-making responsibility and work up to you.

At Smart Investor, we do more than just make recommendations and suggestions. Instead, you delegate a significant portion of your fiduciary responsibilities to us and we’re accountable to you. In other words, you hire a prudent professional in accord with ERISA — Smart Investor — to do the work and be accountable to you.

Smart Investor serves as an ERISA 3(38) Investment Manager, which allows you to shift most of the fiduciary investment management responsibilities and concurrent liability exposure from you to us. We are the Plan’s prudent expert investment manager and are responsible for and have the discretion to select, monitor, and replace the diversified investment options in your Plan.  Your investment management responsibility is limited to selecting and monitoring the investment manager.  Instead of being frustrated with the regulatory requirements, you can devote your energies to making your business more profitable.

We are accountable to you and provide you with the necessary documentation to demonstrate that your plan is being managed prudently and that we are providing reasonable services at a reasonable cost in conjunction with our strategic recordkeeping, TPA and ERISA attorney partners.

Our written service agreement and procedures clearly and transparently disclose the services we provide and how we are compensated. We don’t receive payment from any third parties or investment products and are only compensated by the plan assets or the plan sponsor.

Equally important, Smart Investor provides one-on-one fiduciary investment and retirement planning advice to your plan participants, emphasizing the benefits you are providing. This is something that many talk about but few do. Our team works with plan participants to answer their questions, including:

  • Am I making the most of the retirement benefits provided to me?
  • When am I going to retire?
  • How much money would I like to have in retirement?
  • How much will I need?
  • How much do I have now?
  • Am I on track to reach my goals?
  • What adjustments do I need to make?
